Get Hired!

Cleavage exposing blouses, Nike sneakers, faded jeans with holes and rips in them, and mini skirts are probably not the best wardrobe ideas when it comes to job interviews, unless of course you're trying to get a job at a sleezy bar or a position as a deli clerk. Even then, I might hesitate to wear these things.

Some people are clueless about what to wear on job interviews; don't they know that first impression is everything. In my 10 years of retail management, I can tell you that in most cases, I can make that decision within 5 minutes of seeing and talking to that perspective new hire.

Don't get me wrong- looks aren't everything and I get that not everyone can afford the latest fashions but at least find the most professional piece of clothing and wear it!

It's that simple. Dress to impress!

Here are a few of my wardrobe guidelines for any job interview:

-Avoid clothing that is too revealing. The interviewer wants to focus on your skill set and personality, not your physical assets, if you know what I mean.

-Dark washed jeans that are crisply pressed may be acceptable for some employers but most prefer dress pants.

-Athletic sneakers are a no-no. Orthopedic support and comfort is important, but for an interview keep them in the closet with all of your other gym clothes. Most heels, boots, and wedges are fine for an interview; just steer clear from the stereotypical "stripper heel" with the clear lucite heel unless you're planning on giving someone a lap dance.

-Make-up is fine but don't overdo it. The interviewer doesn't want to feel like they're staring at a mask. Natural looking make-up is a good idea for an interview.

-Sometimes jewelry can make your outfit or it can break it. Keep it simple. Think small earrings, a light necklace, and maybe a bracelet. We don't want you resembling Mr. T!

I pity the fool who doesn't take this advice! :)
